Safespots
Safespots (commonly called SS) are points in space, located far away from warpable objects like stations, belts, gates etc

Safespots (commonly called SS) are points in space, located far away from warpable objects like stations, belts, gates etc. Safespots are not completely safe; you can be probed out. To minimize the risk it's better to have several safespots in system and constantly warp between them while there are hostiles in local. Deep Safespots are generally safer as they take higher skills and more time to probe out.

To make a Safespot:

Warp between 2 warpable objects

During warp, create a bookmark in People and Places

Warp back to your bookmark

To make a more complicated Safespot, warp to another object at a different angle from your first safespot and make another bookmark enroute.

To make a Deep Safespot:

Drop a ship in space.

Use the longest range probe to find that ship.

That will place you several AUs away from the object.

Move the ship to that new location.

Rinse and repeat until your current location is far enough from any warpable object in system. Normally 200 AU+ is a good range.

Mining in 0.0
Safespots (commonly called SS) are points in space, located far away from warpable objects like stations, belts, gates etc

Mining in 0.0 is quite different from mining in empire. Main thing to consider is rats do alot of damage and take a long time to kill, and mining barges and haulers are rather fragile.

Here is a common way to mine in 0.0:

1.       Set up a tank. Tank is a ship (typically battleship or HAC) designed to adsorb the damage from NPCs and do it continuously without loosing integrity.

2.       Don't kill any rats. It's very important to keep the whole spawn alive and busy shooting the tank.

3.       Bring in barges, haulers, and mine away. New rat spawns will not appear as far as there is a spawn tanked.

4.       Watch local for hostiles and neutrals, safespot at the first sign of trouble. .
